Value Card Exercise
Part 1 : Personal Reflection and Selection of Values (10 min)
- Each team-member to select from a stack a number of values they subscribe to most strongly, as NSmen. (Recommended : 3 – 5 values)
Points for Consideration:
- What are your own compelling reasons for serving NS?
- How do you see your role as NS commander?
Note : A blank wild card can be provided to allow individual team-members to write down a value they wish to share but which is not reflected in the stack provided.
Part 2 : Value Sharing and Voting (15 min)
- Team-members to share their chosen values with the whole team, with elaboration and personal details where possible.
- As they do so, the occurrence of each value is recorded, which eventually gives a list of the team’s most subscribed-to values.
Part 3 : CO Sum Up (5 min)
- CO to sum up the Value Card exercise and officially identify the values ‘voted’ for as the Bn Shared Values.
Option : Battalion Cards can be distributed for them to record values on, with space on the reverse for recording the Bn Vision.
Objective: To encourage individuals to articulate their personal reasons for serving NS, then to allow shared values to emerge from these.
cards (one stack per team-member, with optional blank wild card)
Deliverables:
A list of the Bn’s shared values
